The Alpha Kappa Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., chartered on May 15, 1940, is a proactive graduate chapter dedicated to upholding the principles of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service. Committed to fostering a positive impact within the community, Alpha Kappa Sigma diligently promotes educational advancement, civic engagement, and social improvement. Through a diverse range of initiatives, such as mentoring programs, community outreach, and collaborations with local organizations, the chapter continues to embody the core values of Phi Beta Sigma and aims to cultivate leadership and enhance the lives of those it serves.

Scholarships Donated

Through our philanthropic arm, The Petersburg Crescent Foundation, the Alpha Kappa Sigma Chapter has raised and donated over $8,000 dollars to rising seniors through Education Scholarships

Black Spend Dollars

Through our Black Spend Initiative, we aim to be a change agent for Black-owned businesses by increasing the circulation of the Black dollar and awareness of Black-owned franchises within our communities. Alpha Kappa Sigma has collectively invested over $14,000 back into local Businesses of Petersburg and surrounding communities. 

Community Service Hours

One of our principles exemplifies our commitment to community service: Service. Alpha Kappa Sigma has participated in and accumulated over 1,300 community service hours in FY24.

The Petersburg Crescent Foundation

The Petersburg Crescent Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Alpha Kappa Sigma Chapter, dedicated to fostering positive change and community development in the Petersburg, Virginia area. Established with a mission to empower local residents, education scholarships, and promote sustainable growth, the Foundation focuses on initiatives that enhance education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
